 Tuesday Update, May 23, 2017 Mass Tomorrow at 9:00am: 4th grade will host us.  Parents are always welcome to attend. May Crowning will follow immediately after Mass:  Please plan to attend this beautiful celebration in honor of our Holy Mother.  2nd grade and 8th grade lead us in this presentation after the 9:00 Mass. Kindergarten Beach Day, Thurs., May 25.  The last day of school for Kindergarten is Friday, May 26.  They will have a special program in the cafeteria at 1:15 on the 26th. Elementary 100 Point AR Luncheon, Thurs., May 25:  Students may dress down.  Star Wars attire preferred. 2nd Grade Program, Thurs., May 25 at 10am in the Cafetorium. Athletic Awards:  12:30pm in the CLC, Tuesday, May 30.  Please join us! Wed., May 31:  Leadership Mass:  Please join us for this special tradition of 8th grade passing the light of Leadership to the 7th graders.  After Mass the school will sing a special good-bye song to 8th grade. Middle School Academic Awards Ceremony:  10:30 am in the Church, May 31.  Please note, these awards are for 6th, 7th and 8th graders this year. Elementary School Awards in the CLC: Friday, June 2nd, 9:00-10:30am. 8th Grade Graduation Caps and Gowns come home today:  Please hang them up and then iron them.  Follow all directions in the package.  8th graders plan to wear these gowns for the awards ceremony on Wednesday, May 31, at 10:30am in the Church, and then again for the Baccalaureate Mass on Thursday, June 1, at 5:00pm. Summer Math Books will be distributed next week!  All outstanding fees (registration, book fees, lunch, overdue library book fees, aftercare, tuition) must be paid in order to receive summer math books.  All enrollment packets must also be completed. If your student has outstanding fees or missing iPad cords or chargers, you will not be receiving your math books or your final report card. Attention Choir:  We are asking Choir members to please sing at the Baccalaureate Mass on Thursday, June 1.  Please email Mrs. Wilfong at dwilfong@standrewschoolmb.org if interested, or call the front office. Noon Dismissal on Wed., 5/31, Thurs., 6/1 and Friday, 6/2.   Please note:  Aftercare will be available by appointment on Wed., 5/31 and Thurs., 6/1. Please bring your lunch from home.  No school lunch will be served.  No Aftercare on Friday, 6/2. Congratulations to 4th graders who read over 1 million words!   Maria, Joe, Joseph, Erin, Rachel, Emma, Christian and Tripp.  Mrs. Jones will be taking you to Burkey’s on Friday, May 26th at 11:15am.  Look for the permission slip coming home in today’s Tuesday folder and be sure to return it tomorrow! Congratulations to the Elementary School, Mrs. Young and Mrs. Bucior:  This musical was one of the best yet!  Everyone enjoyed their trip to the Wild West!  A special thank you to 5th and 2nd grades for the food items and to Jenna Cunningham, Caryn Coury, Marcela Lomas, and Stacey Fortier for your hard work on organizing and setting up the fun treats after the musical.  Tuesday Update, May 16, 2017 Mass Tomorrow at 9:00am: 5th grade will host us.  Parents are always welcome to attend. After Mass the 2017-2018 newly elected Student Council Members will be inducted. Congratulations to our new President – Natalie A., Vice President – Chelsea D., Secretary/Treasurer – Gianna M., Officer of Spirit/Sergeant-at-Arms – Lauren D., and Officer of Ecology – Sophie L.  Our 8th Grade Representatives are Christine L. and Lane W.  7th grade Representatives are John Michael S. and Lindsey G.  Jack D. and Summer S. will represent 6th grade next year.  Thank you for your service and leadership of our school! Elementary School Musical this Thursday!  Come enjoy a musical presentation and trip into the Wild West!  Grades K-5 will perform 6:00 p.m. in the CLC.  Make plans to attend!  There will be no clubs this day. 4th Grade State Fair is this Friday in the Cafetorium!  Come take a tour around our wonderful country.  The students have worked all year on their projects.  Thank you to all the parents for your support and to Mrs. Jones for your leadership.  We know the students have learned much about our country! 8th Grade Dinner Dance this Friday! Please RSVP if you have not already done so!  The dance is from 6:30-8:30 p.m. in the CLC.  Please be prompt.  Parents are encouraged to come at 8:15 for a special dance with their child.  Thank you to Bridget Brancato, Meg Shavitz and Lynn Tinger for setting up.  Thank you to the Demer family and Pastaria 811 for providing the food. 1st Communion this Sunday!  Please come witness this blessed sacrament and partake in the opportunity to celebrate with our 2nd graders.  Mass is at 1:30 p.m. on Sunday and 7:00 p.m. in Spanish. Congratulations to Evie D. in 4th Grade:  Evie will make her First Reconciliation tomorrow after our school Mass.  She will make her 1st Communion on Sunday with her brother Evan. What a wonderful event for the Durst Family. MAP Testing scores are coming home today.  If you have questions, feel free to call Mrs. Wilfong at school. Final Help4Kids collection this Friday, May 19:   The May collection is for camp toys, games or food.  Thank you for your generosity!  All lost & found items will also be donated at this time. Monday, May 22 is Pediatric Stroke Awareness Day!  Students may wear a purple shirt with uniform shorts or pants to bring awareness to pediatric strokes. Lip Sync 2017 was a great success!. Thank you for your generous donations!  Over $1,700 was raised for our PE Department.  Congratulations to this year’s winners!  1st place: The Voice – Summer, Ava, Thomas, Nathan S., 2nd Place: Last Dance – Sophia, Merrill, Victoria, Eva, Caroline, Bella, Emma, Ashlyn, Tied for 3rd place were:  Boss- Natalie, Chelsea, Christine and Jackson 5 – Jason, Jaden, James, Jack, John Michael.  Honorable Mentions were: I want to Rock – Lily and Paul, and Beauty and the Beast – Wren and Brooke. All Lip Sync participants may dress down in uniform shorts and whatever shirt he/she chooses on Friday, May 26.  Winners will enjoy lunch with Coach at LuLu’s Cafe.  Please see the permission slip included in today’s Tuesday folder. Accelerated Reader News:  Today is the last day to take an AR test.  Those students earning 100 or more AR points for this school year will be included in the AR luncheons held next week.  The middle school luncheon is scheduled for 11:15 on Tuesday, May 23 and the elementary school lunch is Thursday, May 25th at 11:15 in the CLC.  Stay tuned for details!...

The Winners this year were:  1st place: 8th Grader, Victoria M. – How Urbanization Affects pH Levels of a Water Source.  2nd Place:  8th Grader, Emma W. -Battery Life.  There was a 4 way tie for 3rd place:  7th Grader, Christine L., How much sugar is in Sodas? 8th Grader, Natalie A. – What Conditions are Needed to Cause Steel Wool to Rust the Quickest? 7th Grader, Mason H. – Does Weight Affect a Drone’s Battery Life? 8th Grader, Amelia H. – Hydroponics: Deep Water Culture vs Passive Sub-Irrigation.  Honorable Mention: 7th Graders, Gianna M. – Cell Phone Spectrophotometer and Jake D. – Sound vs Fire.  Tuesday Update, May 2, 2017 Mass Tomorrow at 9:00am: 7th grade will host us.  Parents are always welcome to attend. Middle School Musical:  Thank you to Mrs. Young, the middle school students, the stage moms and all middle school parents for their support of this production.  It was enjoyed by all!  The hard work was apparent!  Thank you Mrs. Young for going above and beyond to provide this experience for our students! MAP Testing Continues in grades K-5:  Thank you for your support in having your children on time in the morning, fed and rested.  We look forward to seeing their growth this year and using this data to make plans for next year. Attention 8th Graders!  The guidance department at Myrtle Beach High will be hosting a scheduling information session for all incoming 9th graders who plan to attend MBHS tomorrow @ 8:45am.  Please contact the office if you and your child plan to attend.  You will need to check your child out.  8th graders attending may wear appropriate dress down clothes that day.  Tuesday Update, April 25, 2017 Mass Tomorrow at 9:00am: 8th grade will host us.  Parents are always welcome to attend. Middle School Musical:  Get Jazzed up and ready to “Rock the Juke Box” for the Middle School Musical!  Friday, April 28th.  Matinee performance 1:00pm at Coastal Carolina’s Wheelwright auditorium.  Evening performance 7:00pm.  Please plan to attend! Pray, Fast, Sacrifice:  Thank you for your lenten sacrifices and donations made in your Rice Bowls.  Our school was able to send a donation of $2,418.10 to Catholic Relief Services.  Thank you!  Tuesday Update, April 11, 2017 Mass Tomorrow at 9:00am: 2nd grade will host us.  Parents are always welcome to attend. Pray, Fast, Sacrifice:  Children will present their Rice Bowls at Mass tomorrow.  Thank you to the volunteers who have offered to help us organize this effort!  All money will be sent to Catholic Relief Services.  Thank you! Holy Week Retreat Today!  Today, our children began the journey through the most sacred and holy week of our liturgical year with our Holy Week Retreat, hosted by our 8th graders.  All students traveled through Holy Thursday, Good Friday, Holy Saturday and finally Easter Sunday.  All Holy Week Masses and services are listed in the Church bulletin. Please make an effort to participate in the Paschal Triduum. School Board meeting tonight:  5:00pm in the library. No School for Kindergarten April 24th & 25th:  Incoming Kindergarten students will be tested on these two days. Policy Reminder:  As a private, Catholic School we take our policy for no trespassing and respecting the privacy of our parents, visitors and students seriously.  Please be reminded that parents sign formal releases for permission for photos of their children to be taken.  At no time is it appropriate to take pictures on our school grounds of students, faculty, or parents without permission from that person.  Permission will be granted at our formal school events such as graduation, First Communion, and other special occasions.  Thank you for abiding by this policy. Help4Kids collection:  Thank you to everyone who has sent in Easter basket supplies for Help4Kids.  Aftercare is going to assemble the baskets and they will be delivered on Thursday.  We appreciate all the generosity in providing for this important ministry.  Our students will make Easter brighter for the needy in our area!
